"Oculus," an original 36x48" acrylic on canvas by Ricky Dean, captures the ancient watchfulness of the Eye of Horus rising from a weathered field of ochre, rust, and olive. Built up in patient layers of pigment and cracked, aged texture, the surface carries a sense of time passing across itself — as if the image had always been there, waiting to be uncovered rather than painted. Warm earth tones settle against passages of cooler blue and stone gray, and out of that quiet tension emerges something genuinely powerful: an ancient symbol reframed through a contemporary, tactile hand. It continues my exploration of symbol and surface as vessels for memory, in the same spirit as previous work collectors have responded to. For those drawn to pieces that feel unearthed rather than made, "Oculus" offers both a striking focal point and a quiet invitation to sit with something older than the moment it was created.
"There's a touch of Raiders of the Lost Ark in this one — something left buried decided it was time to surface. What did we uncover?"
